History - Two Great Full Backs

E-mail Print PDF

Swans have produced two of the best full-backs in the history of WAFL football. Tim Barker, (above left), played a total of 239 games between 1944 and 1959. He was a dedicated footballer during a period when Swans enjoyed little success apart from their appearance in the 1945 grand final. Tim Barker became a Life Member of the club in 1957.

Joe Lawson (right), was just beginning to establish himself when Barker retired. Lawson began his 235 game career in 1955 and was a member of the club's three premiership sides in the early sixties. He retired in 1966 after a distinguished career. He achieved Life Membership of Swans in 1965.
