Steel Blue Oval
Elimination Final Preview v West Perth
SUNDAY shapes as a day to remember at Steel Blue Oval with all three Swan Districts teams to take part in finals action highlighted by the league elimination final against West Perth.
A big day is planned at Steel Blue Oval and all supporters attending will get to enjoy seeing the colts, reserves and league Swan Districts teams taking part in finals action.
It all gets underway at 9.20am with Swan Districts colts taking on Claremont in the qualifying final.
It shapes as a tremendous contest with Claremont coming into the game having won 13 games during the home and away season, and Swan Districts 12 while also having a bye.
Claremont's colts have won the past two premierships but Swan Districts won the flag before that in 2014. Swans beat the Tigers in that 2014 grand final before Claremont got revenge winning over Swan Districts for the colts premiership of 2015.
It will be a tremendous battle on Sunday morning featuring some of the best young talent in the country. The winner will advance to play East Fremantle in a second semi-final next week while the loser will face the winner of Saturday's elimination final between Peel Thunder and East Perth.
It will then be time for the reserves elimination final bouncing down at 11.50am between Swan Districts and Perth.
Swans finished the home and away season in the reserves in fifth position having beaten East Fremantle last Saturday to book in a finals appearance. Perth finished fourth with an 11-9 record.
The winner of the reserves elimination final will go on to play the loser of Saturday's qualifying final between Claremont and Subiaco while the season will be over for the loser.
It will be then time for the league elimination final between Swan Districts and West Perth starting at 2.40pm and being shown live on Channel 7.
Swan Districts qualified for the finals from fourth position with a 10-10 record while West Perth finished on the same record but were fifth due to percentage.
That gives the black-and-whites home ground advantage against the Falcons with a spot in next week's first semi-final against the loser of South Fremantle and Peel Thunder at stake. The season will be over for the loser.
West Perth has won the last five games against Swan Districts with Swans' last win over the Falcons coming in Round 17, 2015 by just two points at Steel Blue Oval.
Swans will also be celebrating the 200th game of Tony Notte and trying to make it the last appearance in black-and-white for Tallan Ames who has announced his retirement.
Swan Districts coach Greg Harding is excited for Sunday and sees no reason why all three Swan Districts teams can't come away victorious.
"You play 20 games for a reason and even though the last month hasn’t been strong, we did enough work early to earn a spot and a home final. I think it's only the second time in 30 years we've had all three grades in so it will be great to get back here on Sunday at Steel Blue," Harding said.
"It's going to be an interesting day because all three teams are a massive chance. The reserves have found some really good form, the colts have just beaten the top-placed side and us and West Perth are pretty close.
"We've lost the two games this year but one was by five points and the other by eight. We've always had really close games with them even last year when we were at our worst we were competitive against them.
"We think we are a massive chance, they're not in great form and we're not in great form and it's going to be a really good game of WAFL footy. The winner then comes out of it with some momentum leading into a first semi-final. The fact that all three grades get to play at home on Father's Day is exciting after how dark things were for us last year."
