Swannies Girls Star At NAB AFLW Under 18 Champs In QLD
Round 2 of the NAB AFLW Under 18 Championships was held in Queensland last weekend, which saw 8 Swan Districts girls pull on the WA colours; Rikki Ryan, Taylor Pescud, Mikayla Bowen, Emma O’Driscoll, Mikayla Hyde, Brianna Hyde, Caitlin Hill, Jessica Cox.
The week-long carnival, saw WA take home one win over the Eastern Allies, and another two close losses to Victoria Country and Victoria Metro. Despite the overall match results, it was two of our own who stood tall and were named in a 48-player All Australian squad at the conclusion of the carnival. Our very own V Swans trainee - Rikki Ryan and 17-year-old Mikayla Bowen were standouts for WA and were rewarded with All Australian squad selection.
The All Australian squad will be split into two sides that will play each other in a curtain-raiser to the EJ Whitten Legends match in Adelaide on Friday, August 31.
A 22-player All -Australian team will be named after that game.
A big congratulation to our 8 Swannies girls, you did us all very proud.
