Josh Simpson ‘Makes His Mark’

Wednesday, February 27, 2019 - 10:25 AM

Swan Districts Community program ‘Make Your Mark’ targeting our Indigenous youth had a welcome guest come along this Tuesday. New recruit Josh Simpson gave a little insight into his footy career and also highlighted the “family feel” he experienced in his brief time at Swans.

Josh later joined in with the kids for the cooking activity “Pasta a la Napolitana” served with garlic bread, made from scratch by all the groups.

SDFC Admin Officer Jess Belladonna, who may know a thing or two about Italian cuisine, was invited up to do the taste testing and was impressed with the standard of what was plated up.

Our ‘MYM’ program has been running for 9 weeks and will continue through the first term of 2019. Roughly 25 participants turn up each week and engage in a multitude of activities ranging from cultural, fitness, recreational and educational.

Our participants are also encouraged to partake in other community opportunities such as Nicky Winmar/Kirby Bentley, Swan Active, Midvale out of season Football and game day roles during the Swans regular season.

Our Swans male and female footballers have been regular guests in the weekly program and have been fantastic role models to this fantastic group of people.
