Swans Literally Feeding A Need In The Community

Wednesday, March 4, 2020 - 4:25 PM by Matthew Ogg

The Swan Districts Football Club are making a name for themselves as more than a local WAFL team, with a number of initiatives in place to offer a helping hand in the community, wherever they can.

Every Wednesday morning from the 25th March, the club is opening their doors to hungry people around the community, as part of their ‘Need for a Feed’ breakfast.

From 8:30am-10am, anyone in need of food can head to Steel Blue Oval and enjoy a bacon and egg burger, piece of fruit and a drink.

This great initiative also brings about a social aspect where new friendships can be made.

Jim Dougan, the Swan Districts part-time Maintenance Supervisor, and his partner Gill, are the originators of this caring initiative, stating that they knew the club would be the perfect organisation to help host the breakfasts.

‘We have been volunteering around the community for a few years now’ he said.

‘We were last at a facility in Midland helping serve food to people on a Wednesday night.

‘We thought about how community minded the Swans are and presented the idea to them.

‘They were very happy to start it up’.

If you or someone you know are hungry and looking for something to eat, come and join the friendly volunteers at the Swan Districts Football Club, every Wednesday morning from the 25th March, and start your day with a full, happy belly.
