'Hurrikane' NAB AFL Auskicker of the year - Round 10

Upper Swan Auskicker Kane ‘hurricane’ More won the nation-wide NAB Auskicker of the Year for round 10.

His prize is a trip to the AFL grand-final where he will experience the Grand Final parade, watch the game, play at half time and present a medal to a player of the winning team.

Kane’s father and Upper-Swan Football Club vice-president Hamish More said Kane was overjoyed when he got the news on the Monday before round 10.

“He just couldn’t believe it, he didn’t think it was possible.

“He’s pretty happy about it, he’s still smiling about it I think,” Mr More said.

The once in a lifetime opportunity will be enjoyed by 21 Auskickers from around the country.

Mr More said Kane would love playing and presenting medals in front of an 80,000 strong crowd.

“He’s that sort of kid, he’s not that shy. He is quite bold and so he’s known as ‘the hurricane’ by a lot of the kids.

“I think he also probably likes the attention a fair bit,” Mr More said.

The NAB Auskicker of the Year has run for two years now and Kane is the second Swan District area Auskicker to be sent to the AFL Grand Final.

Smarter than Smoking District Development Officer Matthew O’Donnell said NAB had done a great job of promoting the game and providing incentives for young footballers.

“NAB have had some great wins with regard to their Auskick advertising, and when it is timed correctly it has really impacted on participation levels... in particular when ads run during the pre-season.”

Mr O‘Donnell said for kids to be in with a chance of winning this competition they simply need to join their local Auskick centre and can do this by visiting http://www2.aflauskick.com.au/and completing the online application or by calling their local Auskick Coordinator.
