SWANS DISTRICT FUTURE STARS SHINE

Over 500 NAB AFL Auskickers converged on Jubilee Reserve on Sunday, 2 August 2009 to take part in the 2009 Swans District Auskick Gala Day.

Fun and enjoyment was the theme of the day, with this message being reinforced by Bassendean Junior Football Club President and Auskick Gala Day Coordinator Garry Lovelock. ‘We encourage all co-ordinators, coaches and parents to create a positive game environment for the children with the focus on safetyand fun’.

The event opened with the traditional March Past. With more shuffling than marching, 44 teams representing 14 NAB AFL Auskick Centres, made their way around the oval, proudly donning their club colours and banners.

Game time produced plenty of action with 12 grids running for the 5s, 6s and 7s competitions. Our future stars displayed some fantastic skills, interrupted only by the odd cartwheel or shoelace.  here was plenty of action off the field as well, with the Swan Districts League players taking time out to get involved with the children at the handball targets, as well as distance and goal kicking stations that were set up around the ground.

Smarter than Smoking District Manager Angela Doyle recognised the efforts of over 75 NAB AFL Auskick coordinators, coaches and volunteers involved in the day.  ‘The work of our volunteers is vital to the success of all our junior programs, particularly our NAB AFL Auskick program which boasts over 1600 participants in the Swans District. Our volunteers are what make days like this so special.’
