NAB AFL Auskick recognises community volunteers

RECORD numbers of children are expected to flock to NAB AFL Auskick centres next year, with participation expected to exceed the 22,638 who took part in the program in 2009 thanks to the outstanding work of hundreds of volunteer NAB AFL Auskick coordinators across WA.

Over 120 of these coordinators attended a function at Subiaco Football Club last week where special guests included WAFC Commissioner Frank Cooper, WAFC Director of Football Grant Dorrington, WAFC General Manager of Education Colin West, NAB AFL Auskick Ambassadors Sandra Karageorge and Brad Stone representing NAB, as well as West Coast player Nic Naitunai. The function highlighted the outstanding service of parent volunteers, who give up their time week in and week out during the football season to assist in grooming the future stars of tomorrow.

The major award winners were chosen from 17 district and regional finalists from around WA, with the winners from the following categories including:

AWARD WINNERS

Hamish More - Upper Swan Auskick Centre:

Metropolitan NAB AFL Auskick Ambassador of the Year

Jim Ursino - Dardanup Auskick Centre: Regional NAB AFL Auskick Ambassador of the Year

Rhiannon McDonald – Sorrento-Duncraig Auskick Centre: Female NAB AFL Auskick Ambassador of the Year

Redcliffe Auskick Centre: Metropolitan NAB AFL AUSKICK Centre of the Year

Mingenew Auskick Centre: Regional NAB AFL AUSKICK Centre of the Year

This season more than 20 new Auskick centres commenced operation including female, multicultural and indigenous centres, making the program an overall success in all areas.

WAFC Commissioner Mr Frank Cooper welcomed award guests to the Subiaco Football Club and thanked them for their outstanding work in the community.

NAB is at the end of their fourth year of sponsorship of the AFL Auskick program and the relationship between the Districts, Regions and Auskick centres reflects the strong partnership forged to provide a safe, fun environment to the future stars of our great game.
