Ames wins 2011 Swan Medal
Sunday, 9th October 2011
The Swan Medal for the League's Fairest and Best player in 2011 was awarded to Tallan Ames last Friday night. Ames represented WA earlier in the year, notched up 150 games for Swan Districts midway through the season and is a full blooded, dedicated black and white who won the Rookie of Year award back in 2003. Coach Greg Harding has been quoted on a few occasions now expressing his devastation that Ames never got picked up by the AFL system, but quickly adds he is more than happy to have such a talent and leader in Ames around the club.
Ames polled 118 votes to narrowly beat both Tom Roach and Jarrhan Jacky who tied with 112 votes as runners up. Graham Jetta closely followed with 109 votes, then Kyle Hams with 103. The Ted Holdsworth Memorial award for the Leading Goal Kicker went to Tim Geappen with 51 goals.
Rookie of the Year was awarded to a well deserved Alex Howard, who was unable to attend due to his presence at the National Draft Combine last week.
Rob Manton and Ryan Smith tied to take out The Sweetapple Memorial Shield for the Reserves Fairest & Best. Corey Gault was awarded the E.J McManus Shield for the Colts Fairest & Best Player in 2011. Gault was also unable to attend as his was at the Draft Combine as well.
Congratulations to all the winners and we look forward to a strong 2012 season ahead.
