Player’s braved pouring rain and hail to battle it out for the Swans District 13’s to 17’s Grand Final’s on the 18th September at Steel Blue Oval. This was in stark contrast to the Swans District 12’s Round Robin and 13’s Division 2 Grand Final on the 17th September with players being treated to perfect playing conditions.
The 12’s Round Robin Grand Final gave players from Bassendean JFC and Upper Swan JFC the chance to play on the wide expanses of Steel Blue for the very first time. The players didn’t take long to get accustomed to the size of the ground with both sides putting in a big performance, before a fast finishing Upper Swan JFC managed to run over the top of Bassendean JFC by 3 goals.
The 13’s Division 2 Grand Final treated the spectators to another close encounter, with Kalamunda JFC getting over the line by 12 points against Mazenod JFC. Despite the blustery conditions of the 13’s to 17’s Grand Final, the players still managed to display moments of brilliance. The 13’s Division 1 Grand Final saw Upper Swan JFC tough it out to scrape by Eastern Hills JFC by one goal and some change.
The 14’s Grand Final saw Bassendean JFC turn the tables on Eastern Hills JFC to claim victory by 8 goals. The 15’s Grand Final saw Mazenod JFC and Upper Swan JFC take to the stage as rain continued to batter Steel Blue Oval. Mazenod JFC displayed a dominant performance, providing plenty of thrills through the lively Jack Baker to come away with a 5 goal victory.
The 17’s Grand Final saw the birth of a classic, with the game going right down to the wire in a pulsating fourth quarter. La Salle JFC made a dominant start through the run of Jacob Coniglio and Joshua Renzullo, before Forrestfield JFC made a spirited comeback led by Brodie Davis and Dylan Barrett in the second half. However, La Salle managed to gain ascendancy in the fourth quarter, winning the game by two goals.
The Swans District Grand Final Series was played in good spirits, providing spectators with a quality game day experience. The Swans District Football Development Council (SDFDC) wishes to thank the Swans District Junior Umpires Association (SDJFUA), the Swans District JCC and the competing clubs for making sure the games ran smoothly.
