Steel Blue Oval

Swans beat fast-finishing Thunder

On the back of two consecutive losses, Swan Districts notched up their sixth win of the season, defeating Peel Thunder by 22-points at Steel Blue Oval in Bassendean.

The Swans had plenty of reasons to win with Daniel Wulf playing his final game in front of an 1700 strong crowd.

West Coast’s Ashley Hansen showed no signs of a chronic hamstring injury, starting strongly for the Swans, leading well and kicking two goals in the first quarter, with his second a lovely snap under pressure. Spaanderman and Roberts also booted majors for the Swans, giving them a handy 19-point lead at quarter time.

The Swans 5.3 (33) Peel 2.2 (14)

Peel kicked the first two goals of the second quarter, but the Swans answered back with the next three. Two Andrew Krakouer goals extended the margin to 26-points, but a goal to Hayden Ballantyne kept Peel in the contest.

The Swans kicked the next four, with Hansen virtually unstoppable up forward. His fourth sent the margin out to 45-points, as Peel’s frustration led to K Bloxsidge being reported for high contact on Josh Roberts.

At half-time it was the Swans 12. 7 (79) leading Peel 5. 4 (34)

Jeff Garlett added to the goal-fest in the third term, booting the Swans’ first two majors, taking his tally to four goals. Meanwhile Peel captain and 100 gamer Daniel Haines scored his side’s first goal since the 17-minute mark of the second quarter.

Krakouer was at his scintillating best and helped set up Geappen 35 metres out, sending the Swans into triple figures for the fifth time this season.

3 QTR Time: The Swans 15. 10 (100) Peel 7. 5 (47)

In the final term Hansen drilled his fifth, but as soon as the rain came, so too did the Thunder, Peel that is. The Thunder piled on seven goals to two in the fourth quarter, with the final score not doing justice to the Swans’ dominance for the entirety of the match.

The Swans victors 17. 14 (116) Peel 14. 10 (94)

Hansen was the best for the Swans with five goals, 14 kicks and nine marks.
