Last Friday, Chevron Australia held a community event in the beautiful coastal community, Onslow, to celebrate the launch of their major Wheatstone project worth over $29 billion.
V Swans in partnership with Chevron ran and co-ordinated the sporting activities for the children’s entertainment followed by many different prizes and give-a-ways.
Daniel Munday, V Swans Chevron Active Manager and Emily Munday, V Swans Coordinator make up our V Swans full time employees that develop and coordinate sporting competitions for the community throughout the year in Onslow. V Swans part time employee Carol Allen, a local Indigenous Liaison Officer supports Daniel and Emily and they work together with Chevron and the community to build these events, sporting competitions and relationships with the town.
Chevron’s Community Event was a success with over half the town in attendance. The community was welcomed by Chevron’s General Manager Brian Smith, followed by an official welcome from an Indigenous elder of the Thalanyji land. Free food and drinks were available as well as a live band and bouncy castle for the town. V Swans ran competitions and fun activities to entertain the children. The pogo sticks, parachute run, basketball and football competitions were an absolute hit.
Seven V Swans Metro members travelled in a Charter plane along with 60 other Chevron staff members direct to Onslow. The V Swans team had excellent outcomes with not only the children but Chevron, and the community pleased with the night. During the activities the children were able to meet and play with Swan Districts footballers, Jarrahn Jacky and Aiden Smith. And because the kids never seem to forget a face, the V Swans staff who have had the pleasure of working with the kids in Onslow before, were greeted with open arms as they came racing and screaming out of the playground to see V Swans Community Development Officer’s Rikki Ryder and Chelsea Randall. Every child walked away with a prize and a satisfactory smile making the celebration one to remember.
