Kicking Goals Scores at the ACHPER Awards

The SHAPED Awards recognise excellence and innovation in Health and Physical Education / Activity and Dance programs and practices in Western Australian schools and their communities.
The award winners were announced at a Gala dinner at Government house on 28 November. One of the main Secondary School Awards went to the Kicking Goals Program at Newman SHS in the Physical Initiative Category. The program has been made possible thanks to a partnership that includes BHP Billiton Iron Ore and the West Coast Eagles.
CATEGORY - PHYSICAL INITIATIVE (Secondary)
Examples of Physical Education, Physical Activity, Sport or Outdoor Education nominations could include, but are not limited to, programs that:
- Demonstrate a quality Physical Education, Physical Activity, Sport or Outdoor Education program
- Increase focus on a specific group such as adolescent girls, year 11/12 students, inactive students
- Involve intergenerational interaction by linking students with seniors, or other community groups
- Involve daily fitness, after school or break time initiatives that aim to maximize participation across the whole school PE curriculum.
This tops off a very big week for V Swans. The Sister program ‘Shooting Goals’ won The Best Regional Program in WA at the WA State Sport and Recreation Awards and the Swan Districts Football Club took out the ‘Ministers Industry Excellence’ award for 2011.
ACHPER WA Branch are excited to present the SHAPED Awards which are proudly supported by the Department of Sport and Recreation, the Department of Education, the Physical Activity Taskforce, Police and Nurses Credit Society, the Catholic Education Office and the Association of Independent Schools of WA.
