Monday, 19th December 2011
By Rikki Ryder
Following the successful pilot program of the 2011 Yorga’s Maali Academy, V Swans are once again in the process of delivering a bigger and better program in 2012.
V Swans are currently seeking young Indigenous girls between the ages of 14-18 years old within and surrounding suburbs of Middle Swan, Midvale, Stratton, Midland, Lockridge, Caversham and Swan View to be a part of the 2012 Yorga’s Maali Academy we hope to start on Monday’s at the Midland PCYC further into term 1.
Participants will benefit from a 10 week program specifically designed to engage and interact the girls using informative and hands on sessions.
The program is for girls who wish to better themselves in and around the community, to build on their life skills, knowledge and awareness of issues within the community.
These girls will benefit from sessions such as nutrition, health, beauty therapy, drug and alcohol awareness, self defence, goal setting and much more. Within these sessions, the girls will be fortunate to have guest speakers come along and be able to make something useful to take home and show off to the family.
V Swans participants will be a part of a points system which will be based on their attendance and behaviours, a major incentive prize will be handed to the girls that deliver these outcomes at the end of the program.
If you know a participant that fits the criteria and may benefit from this program please feel free to contact V Swans Community Development Officer, Rikki Ryder on the below details:
