Swan Districts - Building the Community and Changing Lives
No doubt you’ve heard the phrase “It’s bigger than football” bandied around sporting circles.
This saying could not be truer when it comes to the Swan Districts Football Club.
Living by their core values; We act with integrity, Everyone matters, Raise the bar and We fly together. The club's core purpose is to build the community and improve people’s lives.
Although football is still a key part of the organisation, Swan Districts are much bigger than just the game itself.
Using a sport most West Australians know and love, the club connects and engages with marginalised people and communities, including: youth at risk, seniors, people with disabilities, Aboriginal and multicultural people, and more.
By encouraging people to use their strengths to contribute to society, not only are these programs benefitting those living in the communities, it is energising thousands of others, including players, staff, volunteers, club members and supporters to connect with people and help them in whatever capacity they can.
With a range of programs now being run out of Hedland, Onslow, Newman, Roebourne and the Perth Metropolitan area, Swans CEO, Jeff Dennis, is proud to be a part of something that makes such a positive impact to people lives.
‘The Swans strategy is to build a community where everyone belongs, matters and contributes’ he said.
‘It shifts the focus from service provision, to empowering people to facilitate change and not just rely on services.
‘This valued contribution help builds self-worth and a reciprocal sense of belonging within the community they live.’
We’ll be bringing you stories from around our state on how the Swan Districts Football Club are helping the Western Australian community, so stay tuned to our website and Social Media pages.
