8 young Swans ready to unleash ahead of this year’s AFL Draft

Thursday, October 8, 2020 - 9:20 AM by Matthew Ogg

With the traditional style of U18 National Championship games cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, WA is hosting its own set of fixtures to showcase their young talent before this seasons AFL Draft.

Eight Colts from the Swan Districts Football Club have been named in this year’s WA State U18’s 2020 Squad, hoping to shine in front of the onlooking eyes of AFL clubs.

58 WA players were selected through nominations from AFL recruiting staff and WAFL talent manager selection meetings, along with input from State Academy staff.

Nominated players will be split into two even teams, meaning our Swans teammates could suit up against each other, depending on how the sides are named before each game.

Swan Districts players to watch out for are: Denver Grainger-Barras, Zane Trew, Jamison Ugle, Ty Sears, Brodie Morris, Rhett Bazzo, Max Chipper and Will Collins.

After a stellar season where he finished as the only Swans player in the Simply Energy WAFL Colts Team of the Year, Ayden Cartwright was very unlucky to have missed out.

Game one will be played at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday, October 10, starting at 11.30am. Game two details are still being finalised for October 17, but will have the same start time.

EDIT: Ayden Cartwright is a late selection.
