New WAFLW Head Coach ready to take Black & Whites back to the final Dance-y

Wednesday, November 4, 2020 - 9:19 AM by Matthew Ogg

It is with great pleasure that the Swan Districts Football Club welcomes new WAFLW head coach, Adam Dancey, to the club.

Having been involved with both male and female teams around Australia, Adam comes with an incredible resume of over 18 years’ experience in football development, player performance, opposition analysis and coaching.

A specialist when it comes to improving the skills of the players he looks over, his appointment couldn’t have come at a better time, with 2020 seeing the Swans league side fielding one of the youngest teams in their history.

An AFL Level 3 high performance coach, Adam brings a variety of knowledge not only on the field but off the field also, having completed courses or worked in areas including mental health, wellness, culture, talent identification and more.

With the women’s preseason just around the corner, Adam says that he can’t wait to hit the training track with his new team, and is ready to implement fresh strategies and structures to ensure they are back up the top of the WAFLW ladder in 2021.

“I’m super excited” he said. “We have a young group and a clever group that are fairly well drilled already.”

“We’ll refine a few things to give them a taste of the professionalism it takes to play at the highest level."

Impressed with the names already on his list, he said that taking on the head coaching role was an appetising prospect, especially with a club that puts a lot of time and emphasis into the women’s game.

“I believe this club are the leaders of female football in WA” he stated. “Swan Districts have a great talent pool with a lot of AFLW players coming from the club.”

“I know some of the girls from the state teams and am looking forward to seeing the players they’ve become since I last worked with them a few years ago.”

With a goal of winning at least one premiership during his two year tenure, Adam’s aspirations also lie in setting the club up for future success.

“I wouldn’t be in it if I wasn’t here for the ultimate success” he said. “However, if I walk away knowing I’ve helped enhance a good culture and strong platform for the player’s development into the next level of their careers, I’d be very happy”

Stay tuned as we bring you more about Adam, his plan for the side, coaching team announcements, and more.
