Swans Women win big over Tigers

Thursday, August 8, 2019 - 10:39 AM - by Chris Pike

SWAN Districts welcomed back a couple of AFLW stars and put together one of their best performances of the WAFLW season at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday to come away with a thumping win against Claremont.

Coming off two strong showings against the league-leading Subiaco, Swan Districts produced an emphatic performance to defeat Claremont by 52 points at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday.

Swan Districts had played the past two matches both against Subiaco over the past month for a close win and a narrow defeat as they prepared to host Claremont on Saturday afternoon with the game to take place leading into the WAFL contest between Swans and the West Coast Eagles.

Swans again take down Eagles

Tuesday, August 6, 2019 - 2:40 PM - by Chris Pike

SWAN Districts might be asking for more fixtures against the West Coast Eagles moving forward following Saturday's four-point win in a thrilling finish at Steel Blue Oval.

Swan Districts came into Saturday's clash at Steel Blue Oval on a seven-match losing run but that last victory had come against the West Coast Eagles back in Round 7 so the black-and-whites were hoping that the same result could occur in Round 17.

As it turned out, it was a strong and committed performance from Swan Districts and it was a six-goal second quarter that put them on their way. Swans then had to withstand a spirited Eagles fight back in the last quarter to hold on and record the 12.8 (80) to 12.4 (76) victory.

Round 17 Preview v West Coast Eagles

Friday, August 2, 2019 - 2:13 PM - by Chris Pike

SWAN Districts' last win this season was against the West Coast Eagles so the black-and-whites will be hoping their return to Steel Blue Oval on Saturday signals an end of their seven-game losing streak.

Swans improved to a 2-5 record back in Round 7 when they defeated the Eagles last time they met and that 14-point victory meant there was reason for optimism for the black-and-whites that it could spark a run of good form.

Swan Districts hadn’t played as badly over those first seven games that only two wins to show for it suggested and breaking through for that elusive second win of 2019 had the chance to spark a run of winning form.

Round 12 Preview v Claremont

Friday, August 2, 2019 - 1:30 PM - by Chris Pike

SWAN Districts is looking to make it three from three against Claremont this WAFL Women's season when the two teams lock horns on Saturday afternoon at Steel Blue Oval.

The clash on Saturday afternoon at Steel Blue Oval between Swan Districts and Claremont will be a fascinating one.

It will be played as the lead in to the WAFL contest later in the afternoon between Swan Districts and the West Coast Eagles as well.

So with the Swans reserves and Youth Girls having the bye along with the colts and reserves also not playing this WAFL weekend, the WAFLW and WAFL games will be the only contests featured at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday in what should be a fascinating afternoon.

Swans fall agonisingly short of second win over Subiaco

Wednesday, July 31, 2019 - 9:13 AM - by Chris Pike

SWAN Districts dominated the second half in Saturday's WAFL Women's contest at Leederville Oval but fell agonisingly short of a second consecutive win against the league-leading Subiaco.

Swan Districts did defeat Subiaco three weeks ago in their last appearance in the 2019 Optus WAFLW Premiership Season with Swans having the bye in Round 10 and then with the general break for the State Game against Queensland.

Subiaco had bounced back from that loss to Swan Districts prior to the State Game with a big win over Peel Thunder, but Swans were still trying to back up the performance only this time doing so at Leederville Oval.

Colts, reserves provide positives on tough day

Monday, July 29, 2019 - 8:52 AM - by Chris Pike

SATURDAY proved a tough day for Swan Districts coming off the WAFL bye with an 85-point loss at the hands of South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval but the news was better in the colts and reserves.

It didn’t turn out the day Swan Districts were hoping on Saturday at the port against the Bulldogs with the black-and-whites only managing goals at the 12-minute mark of the first quarter and the 25th of the last with South Fremantle ending up winning 15.17 (107) to 2.10 (22).

Swan Districts' lone goals came from Seb Bright and Aidan Clarke.

Round 11 Preview v Subiaco

Friday, July 26, 2019 - 3:19 PM - by Chris Pike

THREE weeks since a stirring WAFL Women's win over Subiaco at Steel Blue Oval, Swan Districts again take on the Lions this Saturday this time at Leederville Oval.

Swan Districts last game this Optus WAFLW Premiership Season was three weeks ago when they hosted Subiaco and scored an impressive 14-point victory at Steel Blue Oval.

Swans haven’t played since with the club having the bye in Round 10 of the WAFLW competition and then the league having a general bye for last week's State Game which saw Queensland take away the victory also held at Steel Blue Oval.

Round 16 Preview v South Fremantle

Friday, July 26, 2019 - 2:57 PM - by Chris Pike

SWAN Districts will be hoping the bye will prove just the tonic to return to the winners list as they prepare to take on another team, South Fremantle, on a losing streak this Saturday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

Swan Districts had lost its past six matches heading into last weekend's bye to be two games clear on the bottom of the WAFL ladder, but they have been significantly more competitive than that suggests.

With an increasingly youthful line-up, Swans have been able to keep themselves in games for the most part but not quite for the full four quarters which is a signal of the inexperience amongst the group.

Ellard primed for big finish to frustrating 2019

Thursday, July 25, 2019 - 3:08 PM - by Chris Pike

IT is fair to say it's been a frustrating 2019 WAFL season for Swan Districts as a team and co-captain David Ellard personally, but he is focused on a strong finish to the campaign and has thrown his full support behind coach Adam Pickering.

It has been a 2019 season that has never really got off the group for Ellard. His troublesome calf didn’t allow him to make his first appearance at league level until Round 2 and then after getting through two games, he went down hurt again in Round 4 against West Perth.

He then missed Round 5 against Subiaco before returning a week later against East Fremantle in what would prove his last appearance at league level until Round 14 when he made his way back for the loss to East Fremantle prior to last weekend's bye.
