SWANS AFL LEVEL 1 COACHING ACCREDITATION

PILOT DELIVERY COURSE 2008 & COURSE DATES

In 2008, the Swans District will be introducing and delivering a pilot AFL Level 1 Coaching Accreditation Course for all interested coaches within the district.

The Swans District believes that the course is ideal for all current and interested coaches wishing to attain the AFL Level 1 Accreditation, and with the introduction of the modified delivery of the course, will make it more effective and efficient to complete.

THEORY                   +          PRACTICAL             =  AFL LEVEL 1 ACCREDITATION

(Completed Online)              (Completed at SDFC)

The major change is to the delivery of the theory component of the course. The theory will now be based, completed and assessed online via the `Beginning Coaching General Principles' course offered free of charge by the Australian Sports Commission. This component consists of 5 learning modules on the general aspects of coaching. Each module will provide an overview, case studies and activities, an assessment and future links and resources on the general areas of coaching.

This component will take approximately six hours to complete; however, it does not have to be completed in one sitting, and can be done at the venue/s of your choice.

(The course is available online at https://learning.ausport.gov.au and general information about the course can accessed via the ASC website at www.ausport.com.au).

Once the theory has been completed online, participants will be provided with a completion certificate which must be printed off and brought along to the practical session. This step is essential, as proof of the completion of the theory component is a prerequisite to attend the practical session and achieve accreditation.

As in the past, the Swans District will conduct and host the practical component of the AFL Level One Coaching Course, but will only now take approximately 3 hours to complete.

At this session, coaches will be run through and assessed in the medical requirements of the course as well as activities specific to Australian Rules football.

The Swans District will be conducting three different levels of practical sessions - Auskick, junior and youth/senior. Depending on which course is attended, the activities conducted at the practical session will/may include basic skill drills, the teaching, assessment fault correction of basic skills, warm up activities, game sense drills, running of an Auskick session, extended drills and full ground drills.

It is also at this stage that the coaches will receive the relevant information and resources for future use and the payment for the course will be required 2008 fees ARE $105 per coach (Invoices will be sent to club via SDFDC).

The `Smarter than Smoking' Development staff at the Swans District are excited at the opportunities that this pilot course offers and believe that the improved delivery will have a positive effect on the district. We encourage all interested coaches to enroll and any enquiries or questions can be forwarded to your District Development Staff.
