NAIDOC @ SWANS 2021

Swan Districts Football Club are proud to be hosting another big day at Steel Blue Oval during NAIDOC 2021 to celebrate the culture and history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Swans have organised four local Aboriginal businesses to be involved for the significant event. The public are welcomed to engage with the family friendly stalls throughout the day.

The stalls include:

  • Lil Chooks who will be selling home-made mats and accessories,
  • Alkira Design’s who is an 11-year-old Noongar entrepreneur selling key chains and necklaces,
  • Emma-Janes Weaving who sells woven baskets, and
  • Ngalang Moort with digital prints and painted pots to sell.

The activities begin at 10:50am with the Upper Swan JFC Youth Game, followed by an All Ability Football game with Fremantle CBC v Curtin University at 12:40pm.

Upstairs during the Presidents luncheon, Kiara College Dancers take to the stage.

The on-field NAIDOC ceremonies begin at 1:50pm with Welcome to Country by Matt McGuire, National Anthem by Jayda Agostino, Smoking Ceremony by Herbert Bropho and Didgeridoo Playing.

At 2:10pm Swan Districts take on the West Coast Eagles

At half-time, youth from the Swans Community will demonstrate a game of Marn Grook, the Aboriginal game that influenced modern day Australian rules football. The players will be wearing traditional djulips and ochre body paintings.

Just like all home games, the Kids Play Zone will be available, and the canteen, can bar and sausage sizzle will all be open.Presenting stalls:

  • Lil Chooks
    • Lil Chooks is an Aboriginal owned and run small business.
    • They produce home made products that celebrate indigenous culture. You will find a range of baby change mats, picnic rugs, play mats, hair, and other accessories for all ages. 
    • They will have eftpos available on the day.
  • Alkira's Design
    • Alkira is a driven young noongar entrepreneur who has created her very own business at the age of 11.
    • Alkira and her family will be joining us on the day
    • She will be selling key chains, lanyards, and necklaces at the event.
    • You can pay cash or card for the products.
  • Emma Jane's Weaving
    • Emma-Jane Hunt is an Yindjibarndi and Djaru woman with traditional and ancestral links to both the Pilbara and Kimberley regions of Western Australia.
    • She learnt to basket weave when living in the East Pilbara, where she had the privilege of knowing and spending time with some of the female Martu basket weavers from the region. She also makes handcrafted jewellery using the seeds from the native fruit Quondong, making mostly earrings and necklaces.
    • She takes cash and bank transfers for payment on the day!
  • Ngalangmoort
    • Ngalang Moort is an Aboriginal owned and run small business. Ngalang Moort means our family in Noongar language.
    • Paige Pryor is a young Aboriginal woman who is the brains and artist behind Ngalang Moort.
    • Paige specialises in digital prints, frames, pots and is soon to be launching a clothing line.
    • Please bring cash or pay via bank transfer.
