WAFLW 2022 Round 7 Wrap-Up
Round 7 saw all three of our women’s teams playing away from home. The Swan Districts League and Rogers Cup sides travelled to Fremantle for Saturday evening games, while the Reserves headed to Leederville for a morning match.
With all three sides looking to move up the ladder, the squads went into each game confident they knew what was needed to get the win.
Check out the breakdown of each game below…
WAFLW Rogers Cup
The Rogers Cup girls came up against a strong third-placed South Fremantle outfit, with the Bulldogs only losses coming from those above them on the ladder.
The young Swans came out ready to play in the first half, with their pressure around the ball seeing them down by just two goals heading into the main break.
A scoreless third quarter saw the Bulldogs extend their lead going into the fourth quarter before taking the 9.6 (60) to 5.3 (33) victory over the black and whites.
Mahalia Rukuata and Leah Alexander both finished with two goals apiece, with Carys Daddario kicking the Swans other major.
Vienna Marshall, Sienna Gerardi, Rukuata, Lexander and Daddario where among the best on the day.
WAFLW Reserves
An impressive Reserves team travelled to Leederville Oval to take on a second-last placed Subiaco side.
Having defeated their opponents by 99 points in Round 4, the Swans ladies went into the game knowing that a big win could see them move up the ladder.
An inaccurate first half saw them take a 23-point lead into the half time break, with their opponents only score coming from a rushed behind.
Holding the Lions scoreless in the second half, the black and whites kicked a further 3 goals and 6 points to take the 0.1 (1) to 6.11 (47) victory.
Mavis Lyndon and Amy Spencer finished the game with two goals to their names, while Chelsea Donovan-Williams and Yasmin Skene kicked one apiece.
WAFLW League
The Swan Districts WAFL League side have extended their winning streak to four straight games after defeating South Fremantle 4.3 (27) to 6.5 (41) at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.
The scores almost couldn’t be tighter in the first quarter, with just one point separating the teams at the first break.
The black and whites stepped up the pressure in the second, kicking three goals to one, to take a 13-point lead half time.
Another two goals to one in the third saw them go three goals up heading into the final term.
The scoring dried up for the Swans in the fourth, managing just one point take the 14-point win.
Ash Sharp and Courtney Zappara finished the game with two goals each, with Lani Pigram and Tannah Lee also contributing with one major each.
Amassing an incredible 28 disposals, Swans captain Jess Cox was the obvious best on ground, while Sharp, Taylor Pescud, Aimee Ralph and Emily McGuire were also amongst the top performers on the day.
