Dancey Re-signs as Swans WAFLW Head Coach
Swan Districts WAFLW Head Coach Adam Dancey has re-signed with the club for a further two years.
The club recently completed a review of the Head Coach position and decided to offer Dancey a two year extension.
Dancey was first appointed by Swans in 2020 and achieved success in his first two years at the helm.
In 2021 he guided a young League side, with a remarkable 13 League debutants, finishing the home and away season on top of the ladder after losing only one game and playing in the WAFLW Grand Final. He was also awarded the WAFLW Coach of the Year in his first season as Head Coach.
This year Dancey led both the League and Reserves to finish the season with narrow losses in the Preliminary Finals.
“Adam will continue to play an important role in helping the club continue transitioning from a community women’s football program to a high performing WAFLW environment”, says the club’s Chief Executive Jeff Dennis.
“The club’s in its third year of its Swans Football Strategic Plan 2020 – 2024. The plan strives to achieve an enduring and sustainable high performing football department and our women’s football program is an integral part of this”.
Swans continue to request additional funding from the AFL via the WA Football Commission to support the female talent pathway to the AFLW through the WAFLW competition. WAFL clubs play an important role in identifying and developing female football talent. They require additional funding to be able to improve and expand the services provided to young and upcoming female talent.
Adam Dancey was delighted to receive the club’s unwavering support. “I’m really excited to sign on and continue working with the club and the player group as the female program continues to grow and evolve. It’s an exciting time, we have an exciting list and we will continue to build towards ultimate success”.
Dancey is an AFL Level 3 high performance coach and has 20 years’ experience in football development, player performance, opposition analysis and coaching. He’s also completed courses or worked in areas including mental health, wellness, culture and talent identification.
