Jarrod Cameron’s Back on the Track

Thursday, February 16, 2023 - 4:14 PM

Jarrod Cameron has returned to training looking the best he has for a couple of years.

Still young enough and with the ability to potentially return to the AFL system, Cameron’s return to Swan Districts in another significant boost to the playing ranks for the black-and-whites.

The former AFL-listed player now joins Jackson McLachlan from Geelong’s VFL side, Jesse Glass-McCasker returning to the club after 3 seasons in the VFL, and Swan Medal winner Frank Anderson after a season off recovering from a knee injury.

The 22 year old Cameron took a year off football last season to reconsider his future.

Swans Coach Andrew Pruyn is looking forward to seeing what Cameron can deliver.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Jarrod back to the club. He’s a fantastic young footballer with a wealth of talent and potential. Having begun his career with our colts team, he is no stranger to the club and our style of play.

During his time with the West Coast Eagles, Jarrod demonstrated his ability to perform at the highest level of the sport. He’s a dynamic forward with incredible speed and agility, who has an elite talent in creating scoring opportunities.

I see him as a valuable addition to our squad. His experience at the elite level of the sport will bring a new dimension to the team and will be a great asset to our young players. Jarrod’s positive and vibrant personality will also be a vital addition to our team dynamics, and his ability to showcase his speed and creativity will be an important factor in our attacking play.

I am looking forward to working with Jarrod and seeing him develop further. I’m confident that with his skills and experience, he will play an instrumental role in helping the team to achieve success in the upcoming season.

Additionally, I am excited to see him give back to the community that supported him throughout his career, by mentoring and helping our young players to develop their skills and reach their full potential.”

Cameron came through the ranks at Swan Districts on the heels of his older brother Charlie. He starred in the colts which led to him representing Western Australia in the National 18s Championships in both 2017 and 2018.

Both by playing impressive colts football with Swans and what he did for WA, Cameron made his league debut for Swan Districts in 2018 and at the end of that season, was selected with pick 39 in the AFL Draft by the West Coast Eagles.

Cameron split his time in the 2019 season between playing 11 WAFL games with the West Coast reserves team where he kicked nine goals along with breaking through for seven AFL matches with West Coast where he was especially impressive kicking 11 goals.

He appeared on target to become an AFL small forward for a long time to come with the Eagles, but he had a slow start to the 2020 season through injury. He ended up playing another five AFL games in the club’s COVID-19 impacted campaign.

Cameron would play another four games early in the 2021 WAFL season for West Coast's team where he kicked three goals before succumbing to an ankle injury.

He will become an important and exciting member of the forward-line with the ability of having stints in the midfield.

Cameron will add to his one league game at Swan Districts that he had back in 2018 with the hope that he can not only help Swans be a force in 2022, but that he can impress sufficiently and find his love of the game again to get himself back into the AFL system in 2023.

The Swans faithful will be excited to welcome another prodigal son back to the club.
