Partnership Renewal Enables Rebranded Swans To Continue Delivering For Onslow
The Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project and the Swan Districts Football Club have renewed their strong partnership for another three years, following the signing of a new agreement that will see Swans continue to play an integral role in the town of Onslow.
The renewal comes as the V Swans rebrand to Swans Onslow, aligning under other Swans social impact programs running in Perth and Roebourne, and having a stronger connection to the club that’s been an important part of the WA community for nearly 90 years.
The new agreement allows further consolidation of Swans programs, as well as an opportunity to increase their impact across five key dimensions: physical and mental health, individual development, social and community development and access to opportunities (environment). These dimensions have been demonstrated through empirical evidence to reduce the likelihood of young people engaging in at-risk behaviours such as experimenting with drugs and alcohol and have also been shown to reduce contact with the justice system.
Swan Districts Director of Social Impact, Ian Westmore, said the Chevron's support enables the program to continue delivering education, health and wellbeing outcomes in the local community.
“With the support of the Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project, Swans can continue to focus on improving the lives of people in the community through creating greater engagement in education, improving health and wellbeing and enhancing community connections, all leading to increased opportunity,” Mr Westmore said.
"The incredible support from Chevron allows our Swans staff to be based in Onslow, and be part of the community too, not just a service provider. Our Social Impact Manager in Onslow, Matt Bishop is recipient of the Shire of Ashburton’s Community Citizen of the Year for Onslow in 2023 to recognise his contributions to the community.”
“Recognising the challenges of living remotely, and not having access to services that people might have in other places shapes and motivates our Swans people in the town.”
Chevron Australia’s Partnership Manager, Melissa Smith, reinforced the importance of community programs to enhancing the lives of young people in the region.
“Chevron is pleased to renew its partnership with the Swans so they can continue delivering programs that make a genuine difference to the lives of young people in Onslow.
“These programs help to build resilience and enhance the social fabric of local communities.”
In Onslow, Swans improve the lives of children, young people, and their families, by providing opportunities for growth and connection. Early Years programs are run daily for 0-9 year olds while the Youth Shed is home to Swans’ youth programs for 10-17 year olds. In 2022, over 600 opportunities and activities were delivered by Swans, with 281 young people participating from the local community.
