Duggan Anderson Passes Away
Tuesday, 11th December 2012
One of Swan Districts oldest legends Duggan Anderson passed away last Friday 7 December aged 88 years after a short illness.
Duggan was inducted as a Life Member of Swans in 1955 and in 2011 he was inducted into the WAFL Hall of Fame. He has three Swan Medals to his name from 1946, 1948 & 1951
Anderson had a large impact at Swans over the years (more can be read in the pdf). He was Captain for a couple years, played 210 games with Swans and after retiring had worked with the Club for many years as an administrator. He was Vice-President at the time and was instrumental with recruiting Haydn Bunton Jnr, Swans triple-premiership Captain/Coach (1961-63). Duggan was always keen to tell a story.
Duggan played for Swans in the Post War era and suffered a saw-mill accident in the January of 1947 in which he lost four fingers from his left hand. After initially thinking he'd never play football again, he defied odds and actually returned for that Season and played on for many more.
Swan Districts would like to pass on our sincere condolences to the Anderson family, particularly wife Shirley and his children Peter, Gail & Susan.
