The SDFC women’s players celebrated the end of the year in style at the SDFC Women’s Presentation Night. A semi-formal dress code granted the girls the opportunity to swap their football boots and mouth guards for some glitz and glamour. Several players were recognised for their spectacular performances during the season, whilst guests were treated to some memorable entertainment, which showcased the success of female football through a series of slideshows and videos.

Female football’s night of nights kicked off with Eleesha McCullaugh notching up an award for the Most Courageous Player in Division One whilst Kiana Powell-Hastie got the gong for the Most Consistent Player in Division One. These worthy recipients are both products of the Swans District Female Football Pathway, starting their playing careers in the Swans District Youth Girls Competition.

Lou Knitter won the award for the Most Courageous Player in the Premier Division, whilst Lauren Austin took out the award for the Most Consistent Player. And there was no surprise when SDFC Women’s starlet, Rhonda Williams, was named Rookie of the Year. Rheanne Lugg was awarded the Mandy McSherry Medal, which is the top gong for the Premier Division Fairest and Best, whilst Chelsea Randall was named Runner-Up for the Premier Division Fairest and Best.

However, the biggest winner on the night was 14 year-old Savanna Schimmel, who not only took home the Helen Wheeler Award for the Division One Best and Fairest but was also named the Division One Rookie of the Year. Savanna was closely followed by Kellie Gibson, who rounded out a promising season as the Runner-Up for the Division One Fairest and Best.
