Swannies Ready To Show They Are The Real Deal
With just under 9 weeks until the start of the 2020 WAFL season, the Swan Districts Football Club have started to take their training to the next level.
As the club strives to turn around a disappointing 2019 campaign, where they finished at the bottom of the ladder with just 4 wins, coach Adam Pickering says there are a lot of positives heading in to round 1.
‘For a team that finished last, the players attitudes have been terrific’ he said.
‘I’ve reiterated to the boys that 6 of the losses were under 10 points, so we weren’t actually that far away from finishing in the top 4.
‘We played 5 kids out of the colts program last year, and hopefully that experience we’ve given those guys will help them grow into league footballers moving forward’.
New recruit and former Sydney Swans rookie listed player, Sam Fisher, says he excited about the opportunity to bring his talent and knowledge to the West.
‘I’ve been around two AFL alignments and the experiences I got from being in those environments, I really want to pass on to my teammates’ Fisher said.
‘The club are well aware of the areas they need to improve on, and it’s good to see the improvement progressing rapidly.
‘It’s a real credit to the playing group and the coaching staff, as we try to grow as quickly as possible’.
After off-season hip surgery, Alex Howard is fighting to be fit for round 1 where he will celebrate his 150th WAFL game.
