Swans turn on the ‘Jetts’ with latest signing

In what has already been a successful recruiting campaign for the Swan Districts Football Club, their latest signing could be seen as a homecoming of sorts.

After 11 years and two premierships in the AFL system, 200-game champion Lewis Jetta returns to the black and whites for season 2021.

Playing his junior football with Bunbury-side Carey Park, Jetta made his way to Swan Districts as part of the Colts program and was an important player in their 2007 Premiership win. After being overlooked in the draft that same year, he returned down south to play for Bridgetown in the Lower South West Football League.

2009 saw Jetta return to Swan Districts to play senior football. He played every game that year, including their two finals game appearances. He was selected to represent WA in their state game against South Australia and was drafted to the Sydney Swans with the 14th pick in the 2009 AFL Draft.

He played 127 games with Sydney, including the 2012 Premiership win against Hawthorn, before making his way back home to Perth in 2015 as part of a trade that saw him land at West Coast in a straight swap for Callum Sinclair.

In his time at the Eagles, Jetta became a pivotal player across half back. After the 2018 Grand Final win against Collingwood, he made history by being just the 30th AFL/VFL player to win a Premiership at two clubs.

The versatile and charismatic Jetta will bring flair, speed and exceptional skill to the Swan Districts line-up, as the club looks to get back on the winners list in 2021.

The signing of Lewis is a great coup for the Swan Districts General Manager of Football Operations, Phil Smart, who has added some exceptional top end talent to the clubs list of the past few years, including 2020 Sandover Medal winner Sam Fisher.

“We would like to welcome Lewis back to the club” Smart said. “He will add great experience and leadership to our player group. Lewis has had a wonderful AFL career and we are looking forward to him passing some of his knowledge onto our younger players. It is wonderful to have the Jetta family back at Swan Districts”

Jetta has also expressed his excitement at being back at Swans. “One way to sum it all up, it’s a little bit naughty but yet so nice” Jetta said.
