John Turnbull, A Premiership and State game specialist
After an outstanding year playing in the Belmont under-19’s competition, where he took home the year’s best & fairest award, John Turnbull joined Swan Districts for the 1960 season and would go on to play 206 games across 11 years at the club.
A type of player that offered so much versatility to his coaches, John could be called on to play in almost any position on the field, and make an impact.
An impressive season in 1961 saw him poll 11 Sandover Medal votes for the year and be called on to represent Western Australia against Tasmania, kicking two goals in hi states win.
Strong at the ball and physical around the contest, he was one of only a handful of Swans players to be a part of the back-to-back-to-back triple premierships sides of 1961, 62 and 63 coached under club legend, Haydn Bunton Jr.
John pulled on the WA jersey a total of 10 times throughout his career and received Life Membership at Swan Districts in 1972.
Please join us in congratulating John on his well-deserved Swan Districts Hall of Fame induction.
